COLLEGE FRATERNITIES - The Secret Society on Campus

COLLEGE FRATERNITIES - The Secret Society on Campus -This book explores the similarities between Freemasonry and Fraternities in the rituals, handshakes, and also explains the incompatibilities of this fraternal organization and Christianity.  We did a slide presentation Video on this subject at the 2000 Ministry to Masons Conference and we updated that information and wrote a book.  Many people do not know about Greek fraternities connections to the Masonic lodge and also the rituals involved in becoming a member.  There are also many cases of hazing being investigated that were allegedly perpetrated by fraternity brothers upon candidates, along with many other issues such as pornography and rape.

INTRODUCTION BY AUTHORS
The subject of fraternities is a vast subject.
Is there a connection between Greek Fraternities and Freemasonry?
Do fraternities impact society?
Is there a conflict between Christianity and fraternities?
The answer to those questions is a resounding, YES! We have come to this conclusion after researching many sources. This book is a compilation of answers to those questions.

In 1984 we were ministering in a church in Houston, Texas on the dangers of membership in the Freemason organization. After the presentation revealing some of their rituals, oaths, handshakes, symbols, and their connections to the occult, a young Christian man about 20 years of age came up to us and was visibly upset at what he had heard. He confessed to us that although he was not a member of the secret society of Freemasonry the information we had shared brought conviction in his spirit as many of those same things were a part of an organization he was a member of - a college fraternity! He shared with us that although he had taken part in the initiation ceremonies and knew in his heart they were wrong, he did so because he felt that if he failed to do so, he would be subjected to ridicule and rejection by the fraternity brotherhood. The conviction he was feeling opened the way for the grace and mercy of God and he repented asking for prayer and renouncing his membership in front of the congregation making a decision to break all connections with the fraternity. That was the first time we were aware of the connections and similarities between the two fraternal organizations. Since that time, we found an article in the Scottish Rite Journal we will quote that also tied the two groups together again. We filed those two pieces of information for future use for such a time as this.
Several years later we began our research into the subject of Greek College Fraternities and their connections to Freemasonry at a request of Larry Kunk, Director of Ephesians 5:11, Inc.1  We were asked to prepare a slide presentation2  for the 2000 Ministry to Masons Conference. We readily admit we were curious, but we were not thrilled with the thought of spending evenings pouring over stacks of boring books on a subject that we really didn’t consider "cutting edge." However, as we began to gather information on the topic, that thought soon changed. Larry was kind enough to send us a box of various books and Donna began to surf the web for information and gather more books from the local libraries. Our custom of searching used bookstores in our travels also netted us some rare gems that turned out to be some of our most valuable resources.

As Donna began to sift through the now huge mountain of research materials, she discovered evidence that led us to believe that our topic of Fraternities was much more serious than we first believed. We knew when we were asked to deal with this subject there were some conflicts with Christianity and that there are literally millions of people in positions of authority who have passed through these organizations, many of which we also knew had ties to Freemasonry. These facts alone would make it worthy for research and public comment.
We realized very quickly the issues that were in conflict with Christianity in college fraternities were anything but mundane or superficial. We have frequently quoted directly from our research sources rather than our own words because we feel that this information needed to be carefully documented. You will see that we do not need to enlarge upon or dramatize the issues involved.
As we began to research more for this book, we added many more quotes from a variety of authors. We chose not to research the women’s sororities in as much detail because they are actually a spin off of fraternities. However, we have included a chapter with some documentation about the basic tenants of sororities that are also contained in fraternities. Some of the authors were doing research on both and therefore some of the material is inclusive of both fraternities and sororities.

Most fraternities say they are created because they want to encourage better scholarship and do good works in the community. They hide behind those good works just like other secret societies such as Freemasonry and the true nature or foundations of the organizations often remain hidden to the new members and possibly some of the older members. During our research, some of the key problem areas that surfaced were paganism, secret societies, idolatry, and sexual sin. It soon became abundantly clear that Satan is using college fraternities and sororities as another beachhead from which to launch an attack on the family and the church.
When you evaluate college fraternities and sororities you cannot lump them all together and use guilt by association to assume that what one is guilty of, they are all guilty of. Some fraternities are started by Christian organizations for the purpose of keeping their children out of harmful groups that would lead them astray and they seem to be providing a valid function. We say ‘seem to be’, because at this time we have not extended our research into taking a careful look at these groups. The same benign atmosphere seems to loom over some of these groups having been formed around specific academic pursuits. However, there could be great danger in dismissing one of these groups as harmless because the practices that we will discuss in the book have been found to be the rule rather than the exception in most of your popular Greek letter societies. We therefore submit this book to the body of Christ as a weapon in our on-going, but soon to end battle with Satan. We have tried to present the most important information about fraternities and sororities that would negatively impact our relationship with God.
(Philippians 3:8 KJV) Yea doubbtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them as dung, that I may win Christ,

Your Brother and Sister in Christ,
David and Donna Carrico
